Dorian Todd Residency

Dorian Todd built the Sesame Robot, a virally popular, open source platform that has attracted over 750,000 views on YouTube.
The XR Studio hosted Dorian for a week-long residency in June 2026. He delivered five presentations across the university: a stop-motion animation class, a convening of high school robotics teachers, an undergraduate research reception, a CCT faculty and graduate audience, and a visualization research team. His talk, "Constrained by Design," makes the case for open source research and accessible robotics.
The residency serves a specific ambition. We have built deep capability in digital twins and simulation. We are now driving hardware, physical computing, and digital fabrication to that same standard, so that what we model in software we can also build, instrument, and put in a student's hands. Dorian's practice compresses that timeline.
The residency also opened facilities across campus to him, including continuum robotics labs, the aquatic germplasm center and its manufacturing operation, material science labs, and the Louisiana Light Source synchrotron.
